Why Umid Na Bayani?
Umid na bayani are Filipino terms which means, unable to speak -umid and a "bayani" which means hero.
We the researchers refer the mangrove as the umid na bayani because like a
hero, mangrove also has shown a quality of great courage and strength.
Mangrove is an evergreen tree or shrubs with straight slender stems and intertwined
roots that are exposed at low tide. Its common trait of growing in shallow and muddy
salt water or brackish waters, especially along quiet shorelines and in estuaries.
Mangrove plays an important role not only in the ecosystem of living things. It is
important in filtering and holding sediments and thus keeping the water over the coral
reefs clearer. Mangrove is very important as habitat for aquatic living organisms. It can
also prevent the flow of water during high tide.
Thus, these characteristics of mangrove has remarkable bravery like a hero. A hero
that is speechless but still shows its strength to help others.
